Default New player here, got some general questions

Hey guys, well yea like what the title said i'm pretty new to guild wars. I'm currently playing factions now but also recently bought the prophecies and nightfall campaigns. But like every other newbies, i have a couple of questions...

1) If i'm playing factions now and i wanna move over to nightfalls...Is it possible to bring over my exisiting character in factions? ...or do i have to create another new character? Also how do i transfer a char if its possible?

2) I also bought the skill unlock pack for Prophecies and factions, So currently i'm an MM and the builds i see here in the forums requires me to have other skills that are only available in the other campaigns. For example the Animate bone horror, its only available in prophecies. So am i missing out on something? Where do i get the other campaign skills from?

You can transfer characters between campaigns. Firstly, you will need to add all of your keys to a single game account (don't make new accounts for each game or you can't transfer). In the main cities of Lion's Arch, Kaineng Center and Kamadan you can find quests that allow you to unlock travel between campaigns; once you do these quests, you can move that character between the campaigns as often as you want by using the ship that appears on your continent map.

If you've bought skill unlock packs, the skills you've unlocked will become purchaseable from skill traners. All trainers will offer skills that are "Core" (common to all campaigns). Skills that are campaign specific can only be bought from trainers within that campaign, so if you wanted to get Animate Bone Horror you would have to visit a skill trainer on the Prophecies map to get it. Likewise, all the skills which are specific to Factions will only be available from trainers in Factions.

Be sure you put all the campaign keys on one account rather than creating new accounts for them. If they are all on the same account, you can get a character from any campaign to any other campaign by means of a quest. If you put them on different accounts, you will have to create a new character in each.

For your Factions character, quests will be offered in Kaineng Center to unlock travel to Prophecies, Nightfall, and EotN. These quests will be hard to miss, because they will be listed in a box in the middle of your screen every time you zone into Kaineng Center until you add them to your quest log. See Campaign Travel on the wiki for the list of quests.

The skill packs unlock the skills, but PvE characters still have to learn them by buying them from a skill trainer or using a skill tome.

Trainers offer all core skills plus the skills from their campaign. I.e., a Factions trainer will offer core skills and Factions skills, but not skills from other campaigns. If you want to learn Animate Bone Horror, then you must take your character to a skill trainer in a Prophecies outpost. Any Prophecies trainer will offer you the skill, since it is unlocked. Or, you can obtain a necromancer skill tome by farming in Hard Mode, chest-running in Hard Mode, or purchase from another player.

cool thanks both of ya that explains alot...but if i'm not wrong the max level in GW is 20 right? So if i were to complete the factions campaign and decide to start on nightfalls, will the missions on nightfalls be somehow tweaked to match my current level because i wouldn't want to sweep through misson 1 like spreading butter on bread lol.

Also one last question, about elite skills...how do i go about getting them? I heard we have to do quest/missions to unlock those or am i wrong?

All the games have easy areas and harder areas so coming to another game only means the start are will be a walkover.

Elite skills are carried by Boss creatures if you have a signet of capture replacing one of your 8 skills then if you kill the boss you can take the skill.

Only if the skill applies to your primary or secondary class at the time of capture.

Correct, the max level is 20. However, you're expected to play through the majority of the game at level 20 - just getting to the level cap is really an extended tutorial to get you used to the ins and outs of your chosen profession.

Elite skills are a special case - you can't buy these from skill trainers. There are two ways to get them:

The first way is to unlock the elite skill (either through an unlock pack or by spending Balthazar Faction earned in PvP) and then use an elite tome to learn it.

The second way is to buy a Signet of Capture from a skill trainer and then find a boss that has the elite skill you want to learn. You will need to kill the boss and then use the signet on its corpse - you'll be presented with a list of all the skills that the boss knows. Simply click on the skill you want to learn from it and your signet will transform into that skill. These signets are single use only, so to learn more elite skills you will need to buy more signets of capture.

I would suggest bookmarking the wiki - one of the things you'll find on there is a list of all bosses and the elite skills that you can learn from them. You can also access the wiki from within the game by typing "/help" into the chatbox.

None of the missions are walk-overs for level-appropriate characters. They are supposed to give you a sense of accomplishment when you complete one. If you run into real problems with one, look in the Factions Explorers League forum for advice.

You can also check our Community Works section for a thread on the program Mapping Out. It is a standalone program that gives you all the information on locations of bosses/elites/greens on accurate maps. You can also keep track of which ones you have already captured.

When your level 20 character reaches Nightfall, you begin the story after the 3 beginner missions, so your first mission will not be too easy. You can do the lower level missions to complete the title, or to fill in the Young Heroes storybook.

If I was explaining the game to any new player 3 things I would always encourage.

1 Don't short cut the game esp on your first character.
There are a lot of missions at the start for choosing a secondary character class.
Do them all even if your sure of what your going to pick, its all free experience points your otherwise throwing away.

2 pick up everything that drops and sell what your not going to use yourself every gold coin counts.

3 Don't spend needlessly use the collectors for armour upgrades and decent weapons till you find better ones dropping or for sale later in the game.

helloo again, i'm back with another question. Its regarding the jumping of campaign to campaign. Well if i happen to be done with factions and wanna start with lets say the propehcies campaign. Will i be directed to the 1st mission of the campaign because i notice that when we travel to another campaign we appear not in the starters land but in the main city? I wouldn't want to jump straight into the middle of the story and don't know whats going on...hehe

Also where do i go and whom do i talk to for the 1st mission if i'm actually accessing the new campaign through travel function?

Although you appear midway through the storylines of other campaigns, your character is written in to appear at that point. Let's say you're Elonian. In Elona, you would find a quest that links you into the Prophecies storyline (Proph chars can't get this quest). After that linking quest, you'll follow along the storyline as normal. Note that you can go backwards aswell, though you won't have access to the quests and the missions won't give you any rewards.

There are missions and some parts of the stoyline that you will skip though on other campaigns. You can still do them if you want want Legendary Defender but aren't necessary to progress through the game.

I would go to Nightfall and get Heros as soon as you can as the henchies in especialy in Faction are bad. Then you can go back finesh the rest of the campaign I am talking about the basic heros you get off of the Island you might as well make the hop over tohe mainland as it is easy for an MM.

You have all skills unlocked if you decide on making a PvP char which is already level 20 with all 200 attribute points. It is basicaly an instant charactor.

Would faction chars be able to get that "linking" quest too? if so mind telling me which one is it? I'm currently on factions and haven't played prophs & NF yet.

Well i'm actually looking forward to completing all the missions and quest and thanks for tips on the heroes, haven't thought of that till you mention it. Do you mind naming out the basic heroes i can get without having to go too deep into nightfalls because i'm thinking of finishing factions first then completing prophecies

Basically when you jump to a new chapter with an existing character you should find a primary quest in that town when you appear. That particular primary quest will be one that is only for characters from other chapters.

When you jump to Nightfall from Factions or Prophicies you get 2 quests right where you map in. Both quests are for heros. The one quest grants you 4 heros, 1War +2Monks +1Dervish. The second quest lets you pick either a Ranger or an Elementalist hero to join your party.

Once you complete these quests you can return to Faction for an Assassin hero and Prophicies for a Necromancer hero.

Personally I found Prophicies to be the better storyline and would suggest you create a new character, a different profession from what you now have, and complete it.
